METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing gum from concrete usually depends on how long the gum has been there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left not long ago and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to get it off by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping the gum off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a gooey and stringy mess. Once the chewing gum is frozen, we slide a putty knife or scraper under the gum residue. Next we move the scraper very slowly beneath the gum and the whole piece should then peel right off of the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is smashed down into the concrete, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we will not use very high pressure because that might damage the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses more pressure than needed to clean commercial concrete. These surfaces can be destroyed much easier than people think, especially if they’re only a few years old. Concrete can need up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional gum removal service.
